Overview
Track Management allows you to organize and evaluate your music collection by rating tracks and marking favorites. These actions sync with MusicBee and help personalize your music experience.
Track Rating
What is Rating?
Rating is a scoring system that helps you evaluate tracks in your collection. Use ratings to:
- Identify Favorites: Give high ratings to tracks you love
- Create Smart Playlists: Use ratings as criteria for auto-playlists
- Track Quality: Rate cover versions, remixes, or live performances differently
- DJ Assistance: Help MusicBee’s DJ feature prioritize tracks to play
How to Rate
- Open the Now Playing View
- Look for the Rating Display (usually shown as stars ⭐)
- Click on a star to set your rating:
- 1 Star ⭐ - Poor
- 2 Stars ⭐⭐ - Below Average
- 3 Stars ⭐⭐⭐ - Average
- 4 Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐ - Good
- 5 Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - Excellent
Quick Rating
Click on different stars to quickly rate the current track without any confirmation.
Favorites
What is Favorite?
Marking a track as a favorite adds it to your “Loved” collection in MusicBee. Use favorites to:
- Quick Collection: Quickly build a list of your most-loved songs
- Smart Playlists: Use the Loved playlist in MusicBee
- Recommendations: Help MusicBee suggest similar music
- Organization: Easily filter your library by favorites
How to Mark as Favorite
- Locate the Favorite Button (❤️) in the Now Playing View
- Click the heart icon to toggle favorite status
- When Favorited: The heart appears filled or highlighted
- When Not Favorited: The heart appears empty or unfilled
Managing Favorites
In MusicBee:
- View all favorites in the “Loved” smart playlist
- Create auto-playlists based on favorites
- Filter the library to show only favorite tracks
Syncing & Persistence
Automatic Sync
- Ratings and favorites are saved immediately to MusicBee
- Changes sync across all MusicBee instances
- No manual saving required
Data Persistence
- Ratings are stored in your MusicBee database
- Favorites are preserved through library updates
- Metadata syncs with MusicBee’s tagging system
Common Workflows
Build a Favorites List
- Start playing music
- When you hear a song you love, click the ❤️ Favorite button
- Create a “Loved Tracks” playlist in MusicBee from your favorites
Rate an Album
- Play tracks from an album
- Rate each track as it plays
- Use ratings to identify your favorite songs from that album
Find Your Highest Rated Songs
- Open MusicBee
- Sort your library by rating
- Create a smart playlist: “Rating >= 4 stars”

Troubleshooting
Can’t rate or favorite tracks?
- Ensure you’re connected to MusicBee
- Verify MusicBee is running and has a track loaded
- Try
MusicBee Remote: Refreshto update the view
Ratings not saving?
- Check your MusicBee database connectivity
- Verify you have write permissions to the MusicBee database
- Restart MusicBee and try again
Favorite button not working?
- Confirm the track is not corrupted in your library
- Try with a different track
- Check MusicBee logs for errors
